As a passionate community leader, Tony Thompson OAM has been at the helm of community organisations, public entities and banking boards.
In leading the recovery of Marysville following the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, Tony has dealt with all matters for the region, tourism, economics and mental health.
Through extensive committees and board appointments for public sector and community, Tony's valuable contributions have influenced future directions of regional development and improved disaster recovery for communities.
These have included roles in disaster recovery with;
In addition, Tony has been involved with various projects and continues providing support with implementing government strategies. This has included working alongside government leaders including State Premiers and Ministers.
Experienced in governance with leading bush fire recovery projects and strategic planning for development of regions and tourism destinations with the State of Victoria.
Tony has been a director with the Dandenong Ranges Community Banking Group Bendigo Bank and held significant public entity board positions.
In Tony’s involvement with the Victorian Bushfire Appeals Fund, he established a number of foundations that included the creation of Marysville and Triangle Foundation. As the Chair of the foundation for six years, Tony has been dealing with philanthropic groups including presenting at national conferences for philanthropy. As a member of Australian Community Philanthropy, he is experienced in dealing with the different status levels and criteria that are involved with the allocation of grants, applying for funding and assessment for programs.
